Below are examples of specific projects I have managed and delivered:
UCL Art Club
From September – December 2017 I delivered an Art Club at William Tyndale Primary School for 10 weeks. I was commissioned as a freelancer to deliver this project for UCL Culture, UCL Museums. I worked with 15 Year 6 students to explore objects from UCL Museums’ collections, including objects from the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology, Grant Museum of Zoology and UCL Geology collection. We explored these objects through the lens of surrealist artist Joseph Cornell and his concept of wunderlust and the creation of shadow boxes. We had master-classes from artists Natalie Ryde and Rebecca Loweth to help the students develop different collage and sculpture techniques and then they created their own shadow boxes. It was a wonderful project to be involved in. Here’s a little film I made to show what we did over the 10 weeks.
In 2015 I worked with Salmagundi Films on an outreach project as part of UCL East initiative at UCL Culture. We produced a film called ‘Priceless’ with young people local to Stratford and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, asking them to think about what they hold precious to them and what their take on museum collections is.
What do you treasure? In July and August 2014, I worked with Dante or Die Theatre and two Westway Development Trust community groups to create a new Pop-up Performance for families, inspired by the V&A and its collection, called ‘Treasure’. The Thursday morning Parents’ Group and Pimento Community Project visited the Museum to seek out treasured objects and then transformed their experiences into a brand new play for families to enjoy. This video is a summary of the project. For more information about the families programme at the V&A please go to Families.
Tudors at the Tower
In 2013 I worked on a project with animators Aardman at Historic Royal Palaces to produce a 360 degree animation of the coronation of Anne Boleyn in 1533. It was part of the Tudors at the Tower event. We worked with local primary school children in Tower Hamlets, our Youth Panel and an Elders Group from Age UK from the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
